Stop NACDL LeadRival Spam

These are the new leads. These are the Glengarry leads. And to you they're gold, and you don't get them. Why? Because to give them to you would be throwing them away. They're for closers.

"Leads" are what you buy from the guys who set up the "free month at the gym" boxes at Schlotzky's. "Leads" get cold-called by guys in boiler rooms. Any criminal-defense lawyer paying for, looking for, or even wanting "leads" should be ashamed of himself.

The people looking for our help are potential clients; they are not "leads." Look at them as "leads" and you're already well down the path of treating them as a resource to be tapped, and not as human beings who need help with their problems.

But not to the National Association of Criminal-Defense Lawyers. NACDL, which has in the past shilled for the highly unethical Yodle, sends out a spam email for a company called LeadRival:

Online Lead Generation provides a cost-effective way to advertise your firm without the administrative headaches that come with other internet marketing approaches. LeadRival believes in keeping things simple and our service reflects that.

Are you ready to take the next step in growing your Criminal Defense or DUI practice? If so, GET EXCLUSIVE by locking in your territory, and let a company that solely focuses on generating new prospects go to work for you!

LeadRival has helped lawfirms across the country maximize their advertising dollars for over nine years. Through DUI and Criminal Defense focused websites like CriminalDefenseHome.com and DUI AttorneyHome.com LeadRival can help you grow your firm too.

We know your business needs a steady stream of clients and we want to help. Our territories sell out fast so please Call Today!. Or complete our Attorney Inquiry form and a representative will contact you.

"Growing your practice"? "Locking in your territory"? "Generating new prospects"? Yech. I don't pay dues to NACDL to get spam email from marketers. I'll bet you didn't either.

I unsubscribed from this NACDL spam list (which I had never subscribed to) when I got spam from Yodle in June. Apparently the unsubscription didn't take. So this time around, I went a step farther, and if you get NACDL spam I hope you will too.

If you click on the "unsubscribe" link and unsubscribe, you'll see a "report abuse" link. Click on that link, and report that NACDL is sending you UCE, unsolicited commercial email, otherwise known as spam (unless you asked to get commercial email from NACDL, which I'm betting you didn't).

NACDL leadership should know that its members don't belong to the organization for the spam, and would just as soon not get it. Maybe if enough of us report the spam and Constant Contact cuts NACDL off, they'll get the message.

  1. For a criminal defense lawyer, “leads” usually take the form of the name and address of people who got arrested so you can send them direct mail spam. I am not sure why people can’t seem to grasp the difference between leads and referrals.
